Complete system for cable guidance on a riser handling crane aboard a drilling vessel

For cable routing in the offshore industry, compact systems are often required that can guide a heavy cable weight safely and with strain relief in a confined installation space. For this riser gantry crane on a drilling ship, a long-term and reliable solution was also sought for the guidance of the numerous hoses and cables. Other challenges included the long travel distances as well as the use in wind and weather and under corrosive influences on the cable routing system.

Today, a plastic-energy chain system from the E4.1 series meets the requirements of the riser gantry crane. The e-chain® is widely used in the offshore sector, as it moves high cable and hose loads safely and reliably with a low dead weight. Thanks to the material, it is perfectly suited for outdoor use, especially on the high seas. A large number of hoses can be guided in a confined space using reverse travelling chains, among other things, and we also supplied the trough modules. Together with the chainflex® cable developed for moving applications, our engineering team designed, supplied and approved the entire complete system for the customer.
